1. Purpose of this Disclaimer

This Disclaimer should be read alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. It sets out important limitations on the nature and scope of the ProGenMatch service, operated by ProGenMatch, a trading name of Gemma Ward, trading address 61 Bridge Street, Kington, HR5 3DJ.

2. Introduction Service Only

ProGenMatch provides a matching and introduction service only. We are not a genealogy research firm and do not carry out genealogy research. We connect clients with independent professional genealogists.

ProGenMatch does not control, supervise, direct or manage any genealogy research carried out by a matched genealogist. Any research engagement is a direct contractual relationship between the client and the genealogist.

3. No Warranty on Research Outcomes

Genealogy research involves inherent uncertainties. Records may be incomplete, destroyed, unavailable, or difficult to interpret. ProGenMatch makes no representation or warranty that:

  • A matched genealogist will be able to find the information sought;

  • Research carried out will produce a particular result or outcome;

  • Any family history information discovered will be accurate, complete or legally definitive;

  • Documentary research will prove or disprove any legal claim to lineage, inheritance, or identity.

4. Genealogist Independence

All genealogists in the ProGenMatch network are independent professionals. They are not employees, agents or contractors of ProGenMatch. ProGenMatch is not vicariously liable for the acts or omissions of any matched genealogist.

Whilst we take reasonable steps to verify the qualifications and professional standing of genealogists in our network, we do not continuously monitor the quality of their work. Clients are encouraged to carry out their own due diligence before engaging a genealogist.

5. No Legal, Financial or Medical Advice

Nothing on the ProGenMatch website or communicated by ProGenMatch constitutes legal, financial, medical or other professional advice. If genealogy research reveals information that has potential legal, financial or medical implications (for example, in relation to inheritance, citizenship, medical heritage, or DNA testing), you should seek independent professional advice from a qualified solicitor, financial adviser, or medical practitioner as appropriate.

6. DNA Testing and Genetic Information

ProGenMatch does not offer DNA testing services. Where a matched genealogist recommends or utilises DNA testing as part of research, any such testing is entirely the responsibility of the client and the genealogist. We make no representation about the accuracy, implications or privacy of genetic test results provided by any third-party testing company.

7. Sensitive Discoveries

Genealogy research can sometimes produce unexpected or sensitive findings, including information about adoptions, infidelity, illegitimacy, previously unknown relatives, criminal history, serious illness, or genetic conditions. By engaging in genealogy research through a ProGenMatch-matched genealogist, you acknowledge this possibility. ProGenMatch is not responsible for any distress or consequences arising from such discoveries.

8. Accuracy of Website Content

The information on the ProGenMatch website is provided for general guidance only. Whilst we take care to ensure the accuracy of content, we make no guarantee that it is complete, current or free from error. We reserve the right to update, amend or remove content at any time without notice.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ProGenMatch excludes all liability for any loss or damage (whether direct, indirect, consequential, or otherwise) arising from:

  • The conduct of any matched genealogist;

  • The outcome of any research project;

  • Your reliance on information provided by a genealogist;

  • Sensitive or unexpected discoveries made in the course of research.

 

Nothing in this Disclaimer excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under the laws of England and Wales.​
